The Wheat Festival is an event that the city of Chiaramonte Gulfi is preparing for. It will be held on 22 and 23 June and the program is full of events. There will be craft markets, food stands, musical shows, folk and group dances.
This festival aims to celebrate not only wheat, which is the most important crop in the world and a fundamental element of our diet, but also the agricultural richness of the province of Ragusa. Specifically, the focus is on ancient Sicilian grains, which are the varieties of wheat that were cultivated in Sicily before the development of modern genetically modified grains. The Ragusa area, one of the most fertile on the island, still produces some of the most highly regarded varieties in the world, known for their aromas, flavors, and nutritional properties. These include Tumminia, Russello, Perciasacchi, Maiorca, and Senatore Cappelli.
The festival is not only an opportunity for tastings and show cooking, but also a chance to raise awareness about the economic importance of native products for the territory.
